Usman Thinks He Couldn't Handle Chimaev's Wrestling Because Of Insufficient Bootcamp

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman spoke out about his performance in his bout with Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 on Oct. 21 in Abu Dhabi.

Itā€™s miscalculations for me. For me, Iā€™m a wrestler, thatā€™s why I love to wrestle. I love to really put time in in camp and really prepare for those positions, and I didnā€™t necessarily get the time to really put the grappling in to be able to stop those takedowns. I donā€™t give up positions like that. Thatā€™s the part that Iā€™m mostly disappointed about is giving up those positions, because I didnā€™t have adequate time to prepare.

Recall that Usman agreed to come out for the fight against ChimašŸ’›ev on short notice after Paulo Costa withdrew from the fight due to health problems.

The bošŸŒ¼ut between Usman and Chimaev lasted the šŸ¬full distance and ended with Kamaru losing by majority decision of the judges. He has 20 wins and four losses on his record. Khamzat has 13 wins and no losses.
