Paris Saint-Germain's 36-year-old central defender Sergio Ramos has officially announced the end of his career with the Spanish national team.
Ramos made his first appearance for La Furia Roja in a 3-0 friendly win over China in March 2005. Since then, the defender has made 180 appearances for the team, scoring 23 goals. Ramos' successes with the Spanish national team include two European titles in 2008 and 2012, as well as a victory at the 2010 World Cup.
The time has come to say goodbye to the national team. This morning I received a phone call from the current coach, who told me that despite my level, he didn't count on me anymore. Much to my regret, this is the end of a journey that I had hoped would be longer and end much better.
It should be noted that Ramos missed the last two major tournaments, Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022, due to a serious injury.
The Spanish defender also played 21 games in the Paris 2022/2023 season, where he provided one assist, as well as three French Cup matches (one goal) and seven matches in the Champions League (no appearances). According to Mundo Deportiv💯o, Ramos may join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr after the current season and join his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
