Former France midfielder Jerome Rothen has urged national team head coach Didier Deschamps to strip striker Kylian Mbappe of the captaincy.
Reports have surfaced that during France's match against Israel (which France won 4-1), the 25-year-old player visited a nigh🐼tclub despite previously asking Deschamps not to call him up to the national team to recover from an injury.
Rothen 🔥expressed his disbelief at Mbappe's actions, pointing out that despite claiming a need for rest, Mꦯbappe chose to go to a nightclub knowing it would become public knowledge.
Rothen told RMC Sport:
We put you very high, we put you above the Eiffel Tower in Paris, so you can’t give that image, you can’t make a mistake. What happened shows that he is above everything, above Didier Deschamps. But I ask Didier Deschamps: take your responsibilities, you take the armband off him.
Mbappe has been a key player for the French national team since 2017, helping them win the World Cu𝔍p in 2018 and the Nations League in 2021.
